Hotel Du Nord

We appreciated the complimentary first round of minibar items, and it was an easy walk to the train station even with our luggage. We had a lovely park view from our spacious room and enjoyed watching paragliders land outside. After arriving cold and wet from Lucerne, we were grateful that Andrea at reception let us check in early because the room was ready. Breakfast was standard, but ordering freshly cooked eggs or omelettes from the chef made it better. The staff were consistently friendly and helpful. Housekeeping missed our rubbish on Day 2, a small issue next to all the positives. We stayed three nights and would gladly return to Interlaken.

The parking was great, the location very good, and the room design was good. Still, we felt uncomfortable about what seemed like greed. At check-in we were told we could check out at 12pm instead of 11am, but at 11am we were told we had 10 minutes to leave or would be charged extra. Would an extra hour really hurt the business? There’s no air conditioning in the room, and if you lose the key card, you have to pay for it, or keep it as a souvenir like I do. Decent place, but I wouldn’t go back.

The rooms were solid for the price, and being near the train station was very convenient. But during our stay months ago, staff yelled at us for going to the breakfast buffet twice to accompany family members who were waking up. I’d give the service negative stars if I could. Past reviews also show unprofessional responses to customer complaints, where they refuse to fix things and blame the guests.

The room was nice and spacious, and everyone was kind to our 19 month son. Debby was phenomenal and so helpful, and the breakfast crew were kind and helpful too. Everyone working there made our stay special. We can’t recommend this hotel enough!
