Alpha

The front desk staff were the highlight for me. They were friendly, knew Lucerne well, and were happy to share ideas for things to see in town and nearby. The hostel itself is clean and simple, with a good spot downtown and an easy walk to the bus and train stations. It’s a really good value if you’re passing through and don’t need anything fancy.

The breakfast was a real plus, with plenty of choice and everything tasting good. Our room was comfortable and very clean, and there were lots of towels. We also woke up to sunlight on the peak of Mount Pilatus outside the window, such a lovely way to start the day. There wasn’t a kettle in the room, but the front desk staff were helpful and let us borrow one. Housekeeping tidied during the day without disturbing our things. We had a great stay at Hotel Alpha, especially with that view.

For what we paid, this was a decent place to stay. The beds were comfortable, the room was a fair size, and the area was quiet, with downtown not far away. Breakfast was basic but handy to have included. There was hair on the sink and in the shower when we arrived, which put me off. Smoke also came into the room whenever we opened the windows. I know smoking is more common in Europe than in the US, but I still didn’t want to smell it indoors. Not bad value overall, though.

We needed a one-night base for exploring Lucerne, and Hotel Alpha worked well. It was quiet, clean, and had what we needed. The staff were friendly and made check-in and the rest of the process easy. I’d recommend it for a short stay.
