Château du Châtelard | 2 persons

Staying in a little apartment inside the castle made it feel like we’d stepped straight into medieval times, or maybe the 18th century. The place is very well kept, and the interior has been modernized nicely. There’s no AC or even a fan, though. I’m a big sweaty guy, so I had to wash up a couple of times.

The views over the vineyards and across beautiful Lac Leman are fantastic. It feels like a proper old castle, perched above Montreux, and the accommodation was great. Getting there from Montreux is easy on the train to Châtelard VD station. Such a great experience!

The courtyard paving is covered in moss and gets really slippery. It’s frustrating to see a place with so much potential fall short like this. I felt the owners were taking guests’ money without making needed repairs or offering much service. The nice view seems to be their excuse for not doing anything. Check the photos below to see what it really looks like, and don’t trust the ones on the website. We stayed in the two-bedroom apartment, and it didn’t feel clean at all. The dining table was sticky, there were stains on the floor, the sheets weren’t white, and the toilet seat wasn’t fixed properly. Taking a shower flooded the place. It’s not worth the price, and I have a feeling the owners want to make money without dealing with the repairs this place needs. The chateau view is spectacular, but almost everything else was a major disappointment. When we arrived, the Conceige even told us their internet was down. All in all, a terrible stay. I wouldn’t advise anyone to book here until they fix the place.

Welllll now... yes baby 😂😂, this is a must-go, must-do, must-have. The rooms are really nice and comfortable, and the bathrooms are ideal. There’s free parking, too. You can walk down to the lake in half an hour at most. And the terrace is lovely for eating with a great lake view.
