La Plus Belle Vue du Lac Leman

The kitchen is well equipped for cooking on a budget, with pots, pans, a stove, working oven, fridge, and coffee machine. It’s about a 6-minute walk from the train station, though the entrance is tricky and I wouldn’t recommend it for someone with a disability. The view from the room is amazing, and cleanliness was appreciable. Claudia was a really nice host. The room was slightly outdated, which may suit a BnB, and I’d accidentally booked a room with a shared bathroom, which wasn’t the host’s fault. There are no blinds, though, and the bright billboard from Hotel Mona bothered me at night.

Our hostess was charming and helpful, and we enjoyed chatting with her. She even shared some produce from her little garden at the back. We also happened to be in Montreux for the free Freddie Mercury tribute band concert in town, which made for fantastic memories. There were three of us for two nights in Sept 2023. The apartment was less than a 15-minute walk from both the station and lakeside, but it sits up a hill, so getting there takes a bit of a climb. The higher spot gave us fantastic lake views and a glorious sunset, and there was a small balcony too. Our front room had its own bathroom, while the kitchen was shared with the people in the next apartment. That was fine, but useful to know. Also, some photos show the Montreux lakeside, not the apartment.

The view is fantastic, and there’s a well-stocked kitchen if you want to cook instead of eating out all the time. The manager or owner was very friendly and helpful. We hadn’t realized our room had a shared bathroom, but it worked out fine. The walk up from the train station is a tough climb, even though it’s only a few hundred metres. Part of the road near the place feels a bit dicey to walk, but it’s manageable. The WiFi is weak and cuts out now and then.

I booked La Plus Belle Vue Du Lac Leman well ahead, but they canceled my reservation just a week before I was due to arrive. When I checked again, the same room was listed at twice the original price. It felt like clear price gouging, and I found the whole thing completely unacceptable. Customer service offered no real solution or compensation. Having to find somewhere else at short notice was stressful and costly, and the practice felt highly unprofessional. I booked through booking.Com, but that didn’t help at all. Booking.com canceled it too. I won’t book with them again, and hope no one else has to deal with the same thing.
