Bellaval Hotel & Restaurant

The hotel was spotless, and you can buy ski passes there at a fantastic price. It’s just a few minutes from the main train and bus stations, right across from the ski lift. We stayed at Bellaval as a family for five days over Christmas and felt completely at home. The hostess and staff were warm, friendly, and casual, with hospitality that felt like a higher rated hotel. The food was excellent, with vegetarian choices every day. I especially liked the half portions, a thoughtful and sustainable option for someone with a smaller appetite like me. The wine list was surprisingly extensive for a small hotel, with something for different tastes and budgets, including wines from open bottles. It’s very dog friendly, and Scuol has plenty to do in winter beyond skiing. We had a memorable stay and I’d love to come back with more time to explore.

What stayed with us most was the kindness we found when we needed it. After a car accident somewhere between the Swiss and Austrian border, the tow truck brought us back to Scuol to find a room for the night. We first came in for dinner to process the shock, and were relieved they had a room available. The owner and staff were lovely. Thomas welcomed us so warmly and even offered a discount to help after the accident. His generosity made a difference on one of the worst nights of our lives. The hotel is beautiful and close to everything. We didn’t have the time or heart to use the pool and spa, but what we needed then was comfort and kindness, and that’s what we got.

We enjoyed our weekend stay, even though I was in Scuol for a business trip. The hotel is handy for public transport and has the three star quality you’d expect from a Swiss hotel. Swiss Pine panels throughout give the interior an authentic feel. Everyone was cordial, and the food was excellent, especially with the good deal on half board. They also serve local specialties, and breakfast was plentiful and fresh.

The room was very clean, with a lovely mountain view. The staff were friendly and accommodating, and the hotel is conveniently close to both the train station and cable car. A lovely place to stay in Scuol!
