Hostellerie de L'Hotel de Ville

The room was in awful shape. The bed was broken, propped up underneath with a piece of wood, and the mattress springs dug into me all night. There was a piece of black plastic serving as a curtain, and the closet smelled like old cigarettes. The towels didn’t seem clean, there was less than half a roll of toilet paper, and shower water splashed all over the room. A strong smell of seasoned food filled the building and seeped into the room from downstairs, making it impossible to stay or sleep there. The room itself smelled bad too, and wasn’t clean. The elevator wasn’t working. The photos on the website don’t match reality, and the price is high for what you get. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. Zero.

I had to find another hotel. There was an overpowering smoke smell in the room, despite the no smoking rule. I also saw dead pigeons in the backyard when I looked out the window. The room had no heating, and the window leaked so badly that cold air came through. In winter, a heater seems like the bare minimum. When I explained why I was leaving, there was no understanding. They said that if I’d been in bed, it would be different because someone had prepared the bed. Really?

This was the worst hostel stay I’ve ever had to endure. I can put up with a lot, but bloodstains on the wall from smashed mosquitoes are a hard no. There were crumbs in every cupboard, a thick layer of dust under the bed, and broken furniture. The room wasn’t clean at all. The manager said he wasn’t responsible for the room’s terrible condition and didn’t know it was in such bad shape. I’ll contact the city of vevey and ask them to look into it.

The location was good, but everything else felt pretty ordinary. I can’t say much that’s great about this hotel.
