PLATZHIRSCH ZÜRICH - Downtown Boutique Hotel & Sushi Lounge

The location is the main draw if you can get a good price. It's right in the old town, with a lovely waterfront walk to the train station. Outside noise is noticeable in rooms facing the street. Noise between rooms was worse: on two of our four nights, two different groups came back late and talked loudly enough that we could make out whole sentences. Earplugs didn't stop us waking up when neighbors were loud. Reception is only staffed until 10pm, so calling might just lead to someone asking the other room to be quiet. The rooms were simple and fairly clean, and staff were mostly friendly and helpful. Our air conditioner kept making noise and they couldn't fix it. They offered to move us, which was nice, but fixing it would have been better, especially as reviews here often mention the same issue. If you aren't expecting a boutique hotel, you may be happier with the stay. The location makes it worthwhile at a lower price, but otherwise it isn't worth the cost.

Room 14 had just been refurbished and had air conditioning, which was great when Zurich hit 32 degrees in May. The staff were wonderful from check-in through our midday checkout, helpful without being intrusive, and seemed proud of how spotless the hotel was.

We only had one night in Zurich, which was a shame because Hotel Platzhirsh was phenomenal. There was a misunderstanding when I booked by email directly with the hotel, and the rooms available weren't what I'd expected. The staff immediately took care of it without questioning me, and we had a wonderful stay. I recommend room 51. I'd give the service six stars if I could, and the location was amazing too. Don't miss this place if you're visiting Zurich.

This was my third visit to Platzhirsch, and the service and accommodations have been excellent each time. They even remembered me from the previous stay, and this one was the best yet. My room was small but cozy and warm through the freezing winter, with plenty of room for one. (foto - view from room)
