Hotel Schweizerhof Zürich

The most plush bed we’ve ever slept in, and having two bathrooms was great. The hotel is very upscale and perfectly placed for the train station, dining, and shopping. We liked the lounge cocktail and dinner at King's Cave around the corner. Our room had fresh fruit, though the apples were mushy, and chocolates at turndown. Fresh flowers were everywhere. Check-in was lovely, with champagne offered, and the doorman when we arrived was exceptionally gracious. The evening doorman wasn’t as attentive and was on his phone. We loved it here and would definitely return.

The hotel has an impressive name, but it could do better. Some staff were very helpful, though one person left me feeling that questions might be met with a snarl. I was travelling with a tour group that was due to leave the next day. After returning late from a private tour, I asked the front desk for help confirming checkout details because I’d missed the tour person. One staff member said the information was on the printed handout and told me to read it. I explained that an eye condition makes fine print hard for me to see. He was difficult and just said suitcases would be picked up at 8am, despite my trying to confirm what I thought I’d been told. Another staff member read the pickup time to me, and it was different from what he’d said. The first person had said the tour guide was done for the day and perhaps the hotel could help, which was kind of them to offer. But sometimes you need to speak to the person who can clarify things. The hotel seems to rely on past reviews instead of improving.

The room was very nice, but I’m never coming back after the terrible restaurant service. The waiter spit in my face, got it on my food, and shoved it in my face. Then the food took an hour and a half, with that waiter’s saliva in it. What a rip-off!

We stayed four nights recently, and the room was one of the best of our trip. It had robes, a coffee machine, and fresh fruit each day, plus chocolates at turndown. Breakfast was good, with hot eggs, great hash browns, and yummy coffee. Misan at the bar was an amazing barman. The hotel justified its price, especially being just across the road from the station.
