City Stay Kieselgasse

The apartment was clean, roomy, and had a dishwasher. They left three cups of coffee, tea, and a bottle of red wine, which was a nice touch. There’s also a parking space, and in Zürich you can drink the tap water. The location was fine, and the baby bed was great. The main issue was the couch bed. It was so hard I couldn’t sleep on it, and I woke up with back pain. It was 38 degrees outside when I wrote this, and there’s no air conditioning, so there wasn’t a way to cool the rooms down. We had to keep the screen closed because of the sun on one side, which meant no daylight until the sun started setting. The elevator doors are too narrow for a baby carriage, so we had to carry our stroller up the stairs. A smaller buggy might fit. For the nightly price, I expected air conditioning or a better bed. I’d stay again, just probably not in summer. It was a good stay overall, but the hard couch bed and lack of AC made it less comfortable. I’d replace the sofa bed with two extra beds and add air conditioning.

The rooms are spacious and very clean, and the kitchen has the basic things you need. It’s about a 10-minute walk to Zurich lake. Tram and bus stops are very close, around a 45-second walk, with trams 4 and 2 there. Coop and Migrow are one stop away. Laundry is available, charged according to use: about 2 euros for a wash and 1 euro for the dryer. Bring your own detergent. There are a few drawbacks that brought my rating down to three stars. The lifts are tiny, only two people fit, and you need to fold a stroller. There are also five steps to climb with your bags or stroller. Housekeeping comes once a week, and the rest is do-it-yourself. Some window panels need repair, though our room didn’t have that issue. There’s no AC, so if it gets to 24-26 degrees, ask for a table fan. There’s no service on weekends or after 6 pm, so if you arrive late and need a fan, you’ll have to wait until the next day. The pillows are extremely soft, almost like not having one.

City Stay Apartments at Kieselgasse was modern, clean, and had everything we needed in the kitchen. The staff were especially kind and helpful. We were in Seefeld, with the tram stop close by and pretty much everything within walking distance. I’d highly recommend it.
