Marktgasse Hotel

The location made it easy to explore the old town on foot, with plenty of different restaurants right nearby. Our room was clean, comfortably heated, and nicely furnished. The staff were both friendly and efficient, and we were very happy with our stay.

Breakfast, the location, the services, and the personnel were all on point during my three days here. My stay was phenomenal, magnificent in a word. Don’t hesitate to book here.

The room was tiny and inconvenient, more like a cabin, and getting there is awkward since the hotel sits on a hill where taxis don’t go. But the biggest problem was the mattresses, which were extremely soft and sagged. We barely slept, and woke with aching bodies. We told the front desk right after checking in and were assured firmer mattresses would be provided. The following morning, though, we were told every mattress was the same. It felt like we’d been misled just to keep us there overnight. While we were at reception, another guest also asked for a different pillow because they couldn’t sleep comfortably, so this didn’t seem to be only our problem. We left immediately for another hotel. With Booking’s help, we got a refund for just one unused night out of the two. Very disappointing, and I wouldn’t recommend it.

The beds were amazingly soft, and I slept really well. The hotel was super clean, too. It’s inside the Old Town, so you typically can’t drive right up, but staff got in touch well before our stay to explain how we could get an exception to drop our bags at the door. They also suggested nearby parking options. There’s no refrigerator in the room. Since we visited in winter, we kept cold items on the windowsill and our drinks stayed very cold. For a comfortable bed and a spot close to old town, this was a great place.
