Are Kapakapa

Miles was friendly and said he was only a phone call away if we needed anything. He met us at the airport, gave us each a fragrant flower necklace, drove us to the house, and showed us how everything worked. We had a wonderful nine days at Are Kapakapa in July. The house was private, quiet, spotless, and spacious, with a short walk to the beach. Its large louvered windows let the breeze through from every side, so even on several very warm nights we slept comfortably. The kitchen was well equipped, and there were plenty of towels and linen. We also enjoyed the company of a friendly little grey cat and were fascinated by the crabs and coconut-eating chickens. We look forward to returning and highly recommend it as a private retreat on beautiful Aitutaki.

The house isn't right by the sea, but the beach where you can swim is about a 5-8 minute walk away. I'd suggest renting a car, since there's no public transport and walking under the hot sun is hard. We didn't buy Wi-Fi access, which turned out to be a nice chance to step away from the internet and reality. It was our first visit, with one child, a baby, and three adults. AK was extremely clean and had everything we needed, including games, DVDs, a juicer, and a BBQ. The shower had great pressure and a water heater, unlike some hotels that rely on solar heating. The staff were friendly and shared lots of useful information. The house has two spacious rooms and could sleep five adults, with a single bed and two king-size beds in each room. We'd stay at AK again.
