The shared space and little garden were fine, and I didn't speak much with the owners, though they seemed okay. The low price kept my expectations modest, but a clean room and unbroken furniture seem like basics. Instead, the room smelled of cigarettes, the sheets and pillow were damp, old plasters were still on the bed, and the previous guest's rubbish was left around. The rooms urgently need a proper makeover.
Asking for more toilet paper apparently won't get you a yes here.
I wouldn't recommend staying here. The staff were friendly, but the location felt really unusual, and the rooms were divided by plywood, so we could hear everything. Our neighbors played music until 4:00 a.m. and then started shouting. People kept coming and going, and the shared bathroom was in bad shape. I was glad I was with two other people. Alone, I think I would've been scared.
Go somewhere else. Our single bed wasn't what we'd booked, which was two beds. The staff were very unfriendly, the area felt shady, and the room was filthy, with mold on the ceiling. The door barely closed and wouldn't lock properly. Terrible place.
The location is good, and for the price, I think it's fair value. We had a decent, quiet night, and were able to cook. The shared outdoor area is really pleasant. The rooms and bathrooms are a little old but still clean. Some of the negative reviews seem exaggerated to me. It's one of the cheapest hostels in the city, so you shouldn't expect luxury.
