Hostel Mal de Puna

😕 The bed and room were clean and good, and the staff were friendly, but the pool was dirty. I paid 18USD for an 8 person dormitory room. At around 2:00 AM, another guest came back and rang the reception bell several times. The receptionist was asleep and didn’t answer, so the guest started knocking on doors. It woke me up and disturbed other guests too. Even in a hostel, someone should be awake and available to help overnight. Being woken because staff weren’t attentive was extremely frustrating and uncomfortable. I hope management takes this seriously and makes sure overnight staff stay alert and available. 😕

Everything felt clean, organized, and easy from beginning to end. I’d seen comments about music, but it wasn’t a problem for me. I really enjoyed my stay here.

The facilities are good and the hostel itself is really nice. The girls were lovely too, but the service from the main guy was really poor. I stayed for a week in March, and it was expensive. After my first night I asked to move to a bottom bunk because the top ones were awful: very shaky, no plugs, and no ladders to climb up. I thought that was a reasonable request for a week-long stay. He made it a major issue. I moved my stuff out, he gave my bed to someone else, but still didn’t find me a bottom bunk, so I ended up without a bed and in an even worse top bunk. After four days I finally got moved to another room with a bottom bunk, but it had 10 beds even though I’d paid for a 6 dorm room. I spoke to him in Spanish, but he still seemed confused about a pretty simple request. I also saw him being rude to other guests. I wouldn’t stay again, purely because of this guy.

The tour desk was very good for booking trips. The location is convenient too, near the city center, markets, and places where things are happening.
