Hotel El Dorado Bogota

The hotel was very clean, the staff were friendly, and the location was convenient. What bothered me was the check-in policy. We got there at 11:30 am after a 12-hour trip, but even though there were very few guests, they made us sit in the lobby until 3 pm. I know the time was listed in the description, but letting us in earlier would have cost the hotel nothing and would’ve felt like a kind gesture.

I've stayed here for years, so it's a shame to see the quality slipping. My wife tried to make a reservation, but John Ruiz and Nendy Ovalle gave her a lot of trouble, even though I'd authorized it several days earlier.

The included breakfast had a good selection, and I couldn't hear any street noise. Bogota traffic can make getting around by car difficult, but there are plenty of restaurants and bars within walking distance of the hotel. There was a language barrier with the staff, though they were very willing to find ways to help despite it.

The location is good, with a great Colombian restaurant just over a block away, and I got a coffee quickly at the bar on another day. The room itself was a problem: no heat, a broken TV, and a security box that didn't work. When I called the front desk to order food and said I'd come down to collect it, they didn't understand English and basically hung up. I ordered two soups for two people, but after we'd paid, they came out to say that soup wasn't available. The next one I asked for was out too, so we settled for the only option they had. Two soups, bread, and fries took more than half an hour.
