La Herencia Hotel

The property is beautiful, and the staff were kind, but the house wasn’t properly cleaned for our New Year’s stay with family visiting from New York. There was visible dirt and grime throughout the kitchen and fridge, a bigger concern during a pandemic, and the fridge didn’t work for the first two days. We were told not to drink the tap water, so we bought bottled water, which we were charged twice what it was worth. On our second night, we all came down with severe food poisoning. We don’t know what caused it, though we suspected food or juice prepared by staff. The diarrhea continued through the rest of our stay and ruined our family vacation and New Year’s. When we raised it with the property staff, they offered no help or concern. We left several days early. Be wary of the hospitality and professionalism of the people running this hotel.

The house itself was amazing, but water safety and kitchen hygiene need much more attention. We rented it for New Year’s, and all 14 of us ended up in bed vomiting with diarrhea. We were willing to pay the high total price, but getting sick ruined the family trip we’d been looking forward to. The cook provided by the property unknowingly used bad water more than once, so they need clearer signs, better communication, and firm procedures for drinking water. After we realized we needed bottled water, we found it was marked up by 200 percent. That felt predatory toward tourists who may not know the local situation, and I don’t consider it honest business. The fridge was also malfunctioning, and we had to throw away food. We left early because we felt so ill. The owners have been dismissive while we try to work out a fair refund. We aren’t asking for everything back, but at least three days should be refunded for the days lost to vomiting and diarrhea. They charged the full amount at the start and were very insistent about payment, as though we might leave without paying. I’d advise paying after checkout, as at other places. I’ve worked in hospitality, and better training could help deliver the experience this property promises. The owners could still make this right, but so far they haven’t seemed willing to find common ground. We’re sharing what happened to warn other travelers and give the owners a chance to fix these problems. Think carefully before booking somewhere unfamiliar, and be very cautious about the water.

There’s so much space in the houses, and they’re very comfortable, with plenty of amenities for a great stay with friends or family. The gardens around each house are beautiful, full of different flowers and fruit trees covered in fruit.

La Herencia is a fantastic place. There are five separate houses with around 46 bedrooms in all. Our house had five bedrooms, an office, a big kitchen, gardens, and a plaza. It was fully equipped, including coffee, and staff are shared to look after guests. Whether you’re coming with a group or not, it’s a huge winner.
