Ayenda Hotel Macondo

We killed a few cockroaches in our room, and the internet was patchy and poor. The location is good, the rooms are simple but clean and comfortable, and the staff were understanding and helpful. Rooms at the back are quieter, though they can get a little noisy on weekends. The front rooms facing la Calle 20 are quite loud because it’s a busy street with a bar right across from the hotel.

The main lobby was clean and spacious, but I didn’t find this a pleasant place to rest. Rooms facing the street were noisy, while the ones facing the hotel interior stayed lit all night. The surroundings weren’t pleasant either. I saw many homeless people using drugs, and arriving at night can feel dangerous. Some staff were friendly, but others weren’t. Breakfast isn’t included, the TV apps need individual login credentials, and the shower only had cheap bar soap, no shampoo. I’d rather pay a bit more for somewhere better equipped.

The decor and paintings give the interior a lovely coffee-region feel, and the place feels homey. I stayed for four days with my mom, and we had a very good experience. The staff were extremely friendly, the rooms clean, there was hot water, and the price felt fair for what we got. It’s near the tourist spots, and buses pass close by for anyone visiting clinics for medical reasons.

The rooms felt huge, thanks in part to the high ceilings, which also helped keep the temperature comfortable. I liked the striking decor and good lighting, along with the old-fashioned charm.
