There was no hot water in our room, and when we asked how to turn it on, we were told there simply wasn’t any. We had to wash in ice-cold water. The birdwatching walk the receptionist suggested started at 6:00 a.m. We got back at 9:15 hungry, but breakfast had stopped, even though we’d paid for it. Our friends at the hotel next door were still served breakfast. The paid birdwatching outing also felt like a waste. We saw more birds from the neighboring hotel’s terrace, and although the receptionist assured us we’d see monkeys, we didn’t. We felt cheated. There was loud music on this hotel’s terrace, so we went next door instead, where we could hear nature and see plenty of birds, which is why we came to Minca. Choosing this hotel was a big mistake.

The balcony view was far better than a TV, and the Wi-Fi worked quickly and reliably. My room was very clean, with a private bathroom that had both a tub and shower. I stayed four nights at Montes de Beraka in Minca, Colombia, and the welcome from the start was great. Hosts Michael and his brother were polite, professional, helpful, and good cooks. Breakfast was included each morning, with scrambled eggs, fruit, sausage, and toast or arepas. It’s around 2.5 to 3 kilometers from town, an easy walk or a quick 5,000-peso motorcycle ride. That distance made it peaceful while still convenient. I didn’t even realize there was no TV until the second day. Michael and his brother are adding a pool and a path to the river. It’s already one of the best places I’ve seen in Minca, and when those additions are finished later this year, it could be the nicest property around.

We had a very pleasant one-night stay. Our Suite had just been refurbished, with a comfortable king-size bed, and everything was very clean. There’s no air conditioning, but the fan was adequate. The bathroom has a bath with cold running water, while the shower has hot water. We had stunning views of the Sierra Nevada mountains from the balcony, which was great for birdwatching. The owner was a nice guy who spoke good English. It’s about a 20-minute walk from Minca town or a few minutes by bike taxi. The hostel doesn’t serve food, but Siembra, a nearby hotel, is a short walk away and has excellent food.

The rooms and bathrooms were really modern and spotless, and the WiFi was fast. Michael and his family made us feel comfortable the whole time. We got fresh towels, breakfast, a clean room, and help with anything we needed. It’s a really cool, modern place with a breathtaking view. Michael said they’re building a pool and cafeteria, so you might get to enjoy the pool.

After staying at lots of hostels in Minca over the years, this one’s my clear favorite. The owners are friendly, the room was modern and clean, and the view was beautiful. I didn’t have any trouble with mosquitoes. 10/10, would recommend!
