The property is beautiful, the rooms were clean, and the location was a plus. We even saw a sloth very close by in the morning, along with some chickens. The place was exactly as described, but the little hassles made it hard to feel like we were on vacation. If we hadn’t already been exhausted and just needed a comfortable night’s sleep, we might have enjoyed it more. Rain on the tin roof sounded like a tsunami. It could be comforting if you weren’t worried about traveling, but we spent a sleepless night worrying about the roads and what might happen in what sounded like a severe thunderstorm. By morning we could see it had only been drizzling the whole time, even though it still sounded like a tsunami. There’s no AC or extra fan, and part of the upper wall is screen, which amplifies outside sounds. Download all the instructions before getting close to the property. They said there’d be a locker for the keys, but it was a lock box. Because of the language barrier, we spent about 15 minutes searching the property for a locker.

We had a lovely stay, and many thanks to Gianluca and Mia for their hospitality. Playa Grande is only a few steps away, great for walks along the beach, especially at sunrise. The garden shower at “Playa Grande Lodge” is a clever way to cool off and keep sand out of the house. Staying in the tree house was a great experience. It’s a typical original build with no glass windows, but the sea breeze and leafy cover keep it refreshingly cool in the Caribbean heat. There’s a comfortable covered porch overlooking the garden and a handy kitchen downstairs. The large room and bathroom were clean and well equipped.

Gianluca and Mia were wonderful hosts, very communicative and clearly invested in making our stay go well. With just 20 minutes’ notice, Mia helped arrange a snorkeling tour, the only time slot we could manage on our trip. Breakfast was included and excellent. We tried everything on the menu and liked it all, especially the French toast. The extensive property feels wonderfully close to nature, and Playa Grande beach is within 100m. My wife and I stayed two nights and went for short dips there in the morning and evening. We were very impressed.

I forgot to take photos, but the lodge was gorgeous, and our room had everything we needed for a visit to Cahuita. Gianluca gave us clear directions and helped us map out places to visit and eat. We came for a little trip to celebrate life and hit the jackpot. Gianluca and Mia, thanks for your hospitality, great vibes, and blessings for our trip. See you next time!

Gianluca & Mia are amazing hosts. The cabins had a comfy bed and a well-equipped kitchen and bathroom, and breakfast was available. There’s secure parking on the premises. No TV is a plus, you get to enjoy nature’s sounds. A great lodge for enjoying Cahuita Costa Rica 🇨🇷.
