Hotel Pochote Grande

I stayed there ten years ago and thought it was fantastic. I’m planning to return on my next trip. It’s quiet, yet you can walk along the beach to Jaco’s hustle and bustle. The place was nice and clean, and the food was wonderful.

The location worked really well for me. It’s a little outside the town center, but everything Jaco offers is within walking distance. The owner seems to keep the hotel in good shape, and the grounds were neatly maintained. My room was clean and had the amenities I expected for an average-priced room, around $100 a night. I liked cooling off in the pool and sitting out on my private balcony in the evening. The one thing I’d suggest is adding Wi-Fi antennas, since the signal in the room was pretty weak and I had to go to the balcony to stay connected.

We liked being away from the busy center, where it was quiet, though town was still about a seven-minute walk or a $2 USD taxi ride. The staff were very friendly and did their best to make us feel at home. The pillows were a bit flat, but they were happy to bring extras when asked. Housekeepers cleaned our unit daily, the AC was great, and the big windows were nice to look out of. There was a security guard walking around 24 hours a day. Eating at the restaurant was pleasant, with scenery, iguanas, wild birds, Scarlet Macaws and hummingbirds just feet away. I’d stay here again and again, even after seeing the taller hotels with their four pools.

We came on relatives’ suggestion and didn’t expect much, but the place won us over right away. The beach is right there, everything was clean, the pool area was nice, the food was great, and the price was decent. Best part, it was just us and one other couple in the whole place. Apparently that’s how it can be on weekdays, while weekends are usually packed. Enjoy! 🙂
