I was left outside this hostel for over an hour at night, despite having paid and checked in earlier that day. I’d been on a group tour from 1 pm to 10:30 pm, so I paid and checked in at 12:30 pm. My room wasn’t ready then, but the front desk explicitly said someone would be there when I got back at 10:30 PM. They didn’t tell me the hostel would be locked, and I wasn’t given the required wristband to enter. When I returned, nobody was at the front desk. The security guard refused to let me in without the wristband. He spoke no English, and showing him my receipt didn’t help. My luggage and passport were in the storage room inside, and I was stuck outside. After an hour, he finally agreed to find someone from the hostel. There was no staff on site, only Monica, an off-duty community coordinator who was sleeping there. She came out in pajamas and said she wasn’t working. At first she seemed annoyed when I showed her the receipt and asked, “Why are you showing me this?” Once she realized it was their mistake, her attitude changed. She let me in and texted the manager to find out which room I was meant to have. That took another 30 minutes. While we waited, Monica said she was the 'community builder' there to make solo travelers feel welcome. Hearing that while I was locked out was the most ironic experience I’ve had. It took an hour and a half to reach my room. I contacted management afterward, and their official response was literally 'we are sorry :('. You do not want to stay here. They don’t train staff or communicate basic security procedures, and they clearly don’t care if guests get locked out. The hostel is new, but with this management the place will start breaking down and accidents will for sure happen. The bed frame above the lower bed was already bent. Imagine if it fell on you and you had to deal with their staff.

The coworking area was my favorite part: it’s attractive, air conditioned and has lots of comfortable places to work remotely. There’s also a nice eating area overlooking the river and a separate yoga space. This is one of the most complete hostels I’ve stayed in. As a female solo traveler, I also really appreciated the female-only dorms. The staff were kind and attentive, and I liked how organized and fun the activities were, including salsa and bachata classes and nature tours. The facilities, bathrooms and rooms were clean, and beds were cleaned daily. The hostel has a friendly social feel and it’s easy to meet people, but it isn’t a party place. The bar closes at 10 pm, and they take quiet hours seriously, which I loved. The property is still fairly new, so a few things are being finished, like fully equipping the kitchen. Wi-Fi was unreliable at times, rooms could get quite hot because staff control the AC, and the menu had few vegetarian or vegan choices. Even so, I’d definitely recommend it.

I felt really safe and the place was very clean. It was easy to hang out with other people, but I could also have my own space when I wanted. Fantastic experience, I recommend it!

I really enjoyed my stay here. The location puts you right in the center of La Fortuna, and the room is cozy. There’s no TV or fridge in the room, but downstairs by the kitchen there are two fridges where you can keep food and cook. They have all the utensils, so it’s a good way to save money on eating out. Just be prepared for the kitchen to get messy with everyone’s food. Things I liked: its own Internet lounge, bar and restaurant, pool table, swimming pool, spa and yoga, fire pit area, and Glamping Cavana Area. There are restrooms downstairs as well as in the rooms. They schedule activities for guests every day of the week, plus there’s a 2 for 1 special on that day’s featured alcoholic drink at the bar.

The river nearby, fresh jungle air and feeling surrounded by nature made this little house a perfect reset. I slept so well, better than I can remember sleeping in a long time, and woke up feeling recharged. I was there for two nights, and the stay was wonderful. The place is cozy, charming, very clean and feels brand new. It was my first time in a hostel, and I loved it. The staff were attentive and kind too. If I’m back in La Fortuna, I’ll definitely stay here again.
