Cabaã±as Hoja Verde

The cabin was well kept, with comfortable beds, a kitchen stocked with what we needed to cook, and a terrace that was lovely for sitting with a book. Breakfast is served at the hotel in the town centre, where we also checked in and collected the keys. We chose to eat out instead of cooking. It's about a kilometer from town in a quiet spot. A good road gets you close, though the last 100 meters or so call for slow driving. A saloon car is fine if you take it carefully. The walled garden around the cabin gave a solid, safe impression. The weather seemed to sit constantly between sunshine and cloud forest rain or humidity, with rainbows appearing often. I'd strongly recommend having a car. You can walk into town, but after dark the locals drove quite fast, and getting around inside a car felt more comfortable.

The hosts were friendly and helpful, living in the nearby main house while still leaving us plenty of privacy. Our cabana was cozy, comfortable, and modern, set among forest, big trees, and meadows. It felt secluded, though everything was close by. We really enjoyed our stay. You'll want a car or taxis because the roads are steep, either uphill or down, and dirt roads and traffic are common. One thing to know is that Monteverde's winds blow hard both day and night. Check out my videos to see what I mean.

We got the dates wrong by accident, but the accommodation offered no flexibility and didn't let us reschedule. We lost the full amount for four nights without getting to stay. I understand cancellations can cost the hotel money too, but charging the entire four-night sum felt excessive and inhospitable.
