The grounds are gorgeous, with gardens, hammocks, and lounge spots where you can enjoy that oceanfront view. But the photos don’t show how close Amor de Mar is to the main road. Motorcycles and ATVs buzz past all the time, and our room, Buganvilla, was noisy and much smaller than we expected. It’s described online as the most private room, but our family of three could barely get around the suitcases. If there are more than two of you, I’d look at one of the bigger villas. The oceanfront rooms might be quieter than those at the back. Bring earplugs or white noise either way. Between the road and our amorous neighbors next door, we needed them. One other surprise: breakfast wasn’t included. The man who checked us in simply said, “Breakfast is at 7:30,” so we ate there both mornings. Then we got a $90 USD bill for me, my husband, and our seven-year-old daughter. If we’d known it wasn’t a true B&B, we would have tried one of the restaurants in town. The view is every bit as gorgeous as the photos suggest.

We held our wedding at Hotel Amor de Mar, and our friends and family couldn’t stop talking about how beautiful it was. The hotel made our dream wedding come true, and I can’t imagine staying anywhere else when I’m in Montezuma. The local family who owns it knows everything about the area, and the people working there are lovely. The grounds are a sight to see, and the breakfast is incredible. You don’t need a pool when the ocean tide pools are right there. Wildlife feels close, too: monkeys, iguanas, and, in season, whales and dolphins. We woke with the sun and fell asleep to the sound of the waves. I wouldn’t hesitate to stay here.

I remember the grounds and the rocks and tidal pools most. Swimming around them felt like being in natural hot tubs. My room was lovely, with teak paneling and a balcony. This was a few years ago, when I was traveling alone. After some shady stuff happened in Santa Theresa, I booked a couple of nights on the spot, and I think the owner gave me a good deal. I was grateful and had a really nice stay. Those teak-paneled rooms with balconies seem like they’d be lovely for a special trip, maybe a honeymoon. 🙂😁❤️

The garden was the best I’ve seen at a hotel, clearly made and designed with a lot of love. The room was cozy, and the sunrises and sunsets were wonderful. I would’ve liked a proper bathroom door, though.

We only stayed three nights, and I really wished we’d had time for more. It was peaceful, the views were incredible, and the sky was so clear at night we could see Jupiter. Restaurants, souvenir shops, and grocery stores are just a short walk away. My partner proposed in the gardens by the water, his favorite spot so far in Costa Rica, which made the stay even more special. As a vegetarian, I thought the breakfast was the best I’d had yet, and the staff were lovely. Laundry is available cheaply next door at Hostel Lucy for 1000 per kg. I hope we can return someday.
