The room was clean, the towels were supplied, and the air conditioning worked really well. It’s right beside the beach where turtles lay their eggs, which is the main reason to stay here. Without that nearby draw, I’d have a hard time recommending it for the price. Still, it was a good stay.

The owners were really nice, and the place was simple but comfortable. We spent one night before a turtle spotting trip, with the local guides’ meeting point just across the road. The drive to Ostional is rough, so staying overnight also meant we didn’t have to make that trip in the dark.

The people were good, but the place isn’t a Cabinas surf, despite what the booking listing said. You have to pay US$20 to go see the beach, and otherwise you can’t get onto it. Also, the supermarket doesn’t open until 3:30 pm.

This is a beautiful, very remote place, and seeing Olive Ridley turtles hatch and head toward the ocean was one of the most incredible things I’ve ever witnessed. Watching them begin their lives really brought me closer to nature. Ostional feels like a special place.

The family running the place were friendly, and the room was basic but clean. Its location is ideal for seeing the turtles nest and hatch.
