Hotel Villas Lirio

The hotel is nicely placed for getting to things in town, and the staff were all very helpful. We had RM106 with its own pool, which was very nice, though the hotel felt tired and dark like many places we visited in Costa Rica and could use some sprucing up. Breakfast was uninspired, although I loved the fresh fruit. Costa Rica is known for coffee, but I can't say I had a good cup even once. The real problem was the road beside the hotel: motorbikes and off-road vehicles used it like a racetrack from 2100 to 2300, which made it hard to sleep before an early start. A shame, because otherwise it could have been 4*.

It's a comfortable hotel between the towns, handy for restaurants and shops. From the top of the hill it's downhill in both directions, which means climbing back up. Our room was large and comfortable, with direct pool access. You'll need a map to find your way between the buildings, and the layout isn't ideal for wheelchairs.

The location felt safe, with a nearby shop and several food options, plus a shop, restaurant, and play area across the way that would be great for kids. The restaurant was top notch, and Chef Olman made the best chicken soup. Beds were comfortable and well kept, and the hot water was perfect after a long trek. There's indoor safe parking, too. The staff were friendly and helpful. Highly recommend!

The staff were kind and courteous, but I often felt they were annoyed about having to help. I was told twice that EV charging was available, though perhaps one of those times came from someone who didn't know better. Someone who seemed visibly intoxicated took our pool towels, and staff barely reacted. When I asked the waiter for extra water at the restaurant, I got an eye roll and a look. Little things like that made me feel unwelcome.
