Our room was huge for the price, much more spacious than the cramped hostels in town, and the valley view at breakfast was lovely. WiFi worked well, and breakfast was very good. We stayed as a couple on March 2-3, 2026, at Almore hotel, about 3 km outside Santa Elena. Tour pickups and drop-offs make the distance manageable if you don’t have a car. There’s plenty of space at the back of a farm, so it also seems suited to coach groups. It’s a rural spot, and the unpaved track up to the hotel can be difficult after dark without a light. The hotel is newly built and still short on some details: our room had two double beds but just one bedside table, and no tea or coffee equipment. The helpful receptionist offered hot water or tea. It was windy when we visited, and the ill-fitting door of room 17 rattled a lot overnight. Other travelers we spoke with also said their hotels were windy. There’s no lunch or dinner at Almore hotel, and the bar shuts at 8 pm, though most guests are out on tours anyway. A supermarket and Restaurante Sensoria Monteverde are about 500 meters away on the main road. The restaurant was packed the evening we went, with good reason: beautiful sunsets and exceptional food. A rural setting, big rooms, and sparse facilities.

The staff were friendly and clearly wanted us to enjoy our stay, and the owners know a lot about arranging local excursions. They’ll shuttle you into town and pick you up for $5 per person. It’s a family-run place on a small ranch, a little remote, with a 40-minute walk to St Elena and a supermarket about 20 minutes away on foot. Rooms are basic, clean, and comfortable. There’s a fridge, but no in-room tea or coffee setup; reception sells hot and cold drinks. Meals are home-cooked and freshly made, with a simple buffet breakfast and three or four choices for lunch and dinner until 8 pm.

The new, clean room and breakfast were the best parts for us, and the front desk woman was nice. The farm animals were so friendly and made the trip more fun for our kids. The rooms are new and well kept, but a few things were missing: no coffee or hot water in the room, no air conditioning, and no hot water at the sink. Since the hot water comes from solar power, there might not be any for a morning shower if your neighbors used it the night before. It got so windy overnight that it felt like the room might fly away. Still, we had a good stay.

The farm animals were a highlight for our kids, and we all enjoyed the peaceful setting and beautiful views. Our family of five, two adults and kids aged 10, 8, and 4, stayed three nights in the family suite while exploring Monteverde. Hotel Almore is family owned and less than ten minutes from many restaurants and activities near central Santa Elena. Everyone on staff was welcoming and kind. We accidentally left a couple of things behind, and they kindly offered to send them to our next hotel. We’d recommend staying here if you’re in the area.

Really lovely little place. Every employee was kind, helpful, and accommodating. The breakfast and dinner are hard to beat.
