Historias Lodge

It’s a quiet spot within walking distance of a small market and a few restaurants, with lovely plants and benches and tables outside for coffee or a drink. The room is well planned, with a mini-fridge, hangers, fan, extra blankets, a little settee, and tables. It’s not luxury, but those details made it a nice stay. The bed was good enough, comfortable enough to sleep well but nothing special. The hill into town is a short walk, and there’s a bus or reasonably priced taxis. Breakfast isn’t included and needs to be scheduled the day before.

The location was inconvenient for us. Without a car, getting around or reaching activities was difficult since everything required transportation. There were some basic things missing too, including a hair dryer, and although there was a fan, no small space heater for chilly nights. The room smelled strongly musty, and the bathroom shower setup seemed unsanitary and outdated, with no proper drain, just a hole in the wall for water to escape. Noise was another major problem: the walls were paper thin, and we heard every conversation and sound from nearby rooms, making sleep nearly impossible. The office staff were only there for a short time each day, so after early evening, even at 7 PM, there was nobody available to help. The combination made for an extremely disappointing stay. I wouldn’t recommend it or stay again.

It’s a nice hotel with comfortable rooms, and a great place for bird watching. There are two great restaurants very close by. I did have an argument with the manager about payment, because he wanted to add 13% for paying by credit card. Otherwise, no complaints.

The garden is beautiful, and Miguel is an outstanding host. If we come back to Costa Rica one day, we’ll definitely stay here again.
