Monteverde Backpackers

Every day, birds were right outside the kitchen window. I could go on about the place, but that was a highlight. It was also close to the supermarket and lots of good restaurants, and they can arrange airport transportation for an added fee. Alonso gave me great recommendations. I told him what I wanted to do during my stay, and he booked everything with pickup right at the hostel door. I even paid less than I would have booking activities online. I splurged on a private room, which was only a little more than a dorm, and the whole place was clean and cozy. Perfect, with free breakfast, too. The housekeeper is an angel, and she and Alonso made my stay wonderful. An absolutely incredible, unforgettable experience.

The breakfast lady was absolutely lovely, and the hostel is cheap, the beds are comfy, and breakfast is included. I saw lots of birds outside the kitchen window, too. For the price, it's really good value, and I would recommend the facilities. The owner was quite rude to me. He listened to a conversation I was having with another guest and then commented harshly on it, even though it was none of his business. Worse, an alcoholic was staying on the floor in the “social space.” He seemed okay when sober in the morning, but once high and drunk he made me feel very unsafe. I hope he gets his life back together. I wouldn't recommend the people here.

Alonso was kind, funny, and very helpful with whatever I needed. The hostel is centrally located and has a well-equipped kitchen. Keep an eye on the tree by the kitchen, it's full of birds. Beautiful little hostel and amazing service. Highly recommend :)

The reception staff were incredibly friendly and helpful with planning a stay in MV. There's a supermarket next door, and the location is pretty central. The shared social area gets a lot of use, and you can spot wildlife from the kitchen windows. Clean, cheap, and sociable.
