The first night was a rough one, with intense howling winds, whistling and dogs barking like crazy. Sound carries because the rooms aren't soundproofed, and neighbours may play loud music past 10pm. The later nights were better once we started using earplugs. I brought my own sheets and lights to be more comfortable, since polyester and fluorescent lighting bother me. Still, it's only a five-minute drive to the centre, which suited us, and there's a gas station nearby. The kitchen setup is handy, with a fridge, electric hob and all the little things for self-catering. The shower gets hot and has okay pressure, a huge bonus in Costa Rica. The family running the place are sweet and made us feel welcome. :)

I almost skipped booking because there weren't many reviews, but I'm glad I stayed. I extended my visit and really enjoyed Santa Elana. The place had what I needed: hot water, a comfortable bed, a clean room, ocean view, parking, laundry service, a great host and family, and a quiet setting. The winds were very strong in February, but I could still sleep.

The hosts were lovely and helpful. Everything was neat and clean, with well-equipped rooms, a private kitchen and bathroom with hot water, and a great view from the terrace. I highly recommend staying here.

A really nice place to stay. The balcony has an amazing view, and the room is spacious, with a kitchen and hot water in the shower.
