Sibu Boutique Hotel

The steep hill up to the lodge is quite a workout if you’re not expecting it. Some of the older people in our tour group had to take a taxi because it was too steep. We enjoyed the climb for the incredible view of Monteverde, but it was a complaint for some in our party. Once there, check-in was very fast, the staff were friendly, and the grounds were kept very clean. They clearly care about the environment, with accessible trash cans, eco-friendly washroom products, and beautiful gardens. The free breakfast was great, with both a buffet and menu choices included.

The rooms were spacious and comfortable, and the restaurant looked stylish, with friendly, quick service. Check-in was fast and very professional, and the front desk manager was friendly and brought a welcome drink. The hotel is well placed for walking down to the center or setting off on day trips to the forest.

We liked having a few little shops nearby, including a bakery and a place selling cheese and salami, about a five-minute walk away. The hotel itself is around 15-20 minutes on foot from town. We stayed two nights in end unit 36, which had three large windows and was quiet and full of light. The hotel looked recently renovated. If the room feels chilly at night, reception can lend you a small space heater. We had breakfast twice and dinner once at the restaurant. The service was great, the food was good, and the prices seemed reasonable.

The rooms, lobby, and restaurant all have a lovely modern look. Reception was very helpful with local information and directions, and the receptionist spoke English. The hotel sits above town on a short but steep hill, though cheap taxis are available, and tour companies and shuttles pick up and drop off there. It's a gorgeous place up in the clouds of Monteverde. Photos don't really capture it, but I posted a few.
