Hotel Konvice

We ended up here for two nights at short notice after our planned accommodation fell through. The manager was extremely friendly, spoke good English, and went out of her way to help us. Our room was huge, the bed was very comfortable, and the modern bathroom and shower were excellent and clean. It’s in the historic centre, in an old building, so the furnishings may look a little dated but suit the place. We had a very pleasant stay, with quiet nights right in the centre.

The Hotel Konvice was a kind of sanctuary during a rough time in Cesky Krumlov, mostly because of a kayaking incident. I stuck it out in town, and I’m glad I did. My room was massive, with views of the castle. Peter and his team made me feel welcome and served a lovely breakfast. I’m not sure anywhere can beat the Konvice’s location.

The view from the window was lovely, with the castle in sight. Staff were friendly, and there was a good breakfast selection. I stayed in room 8, in a separate building a short walk from reception, and can confirm there’s Wi-Fi in the room. The bathroom is modern and hot water is readily available. The bedroom and living room look a bit dated, but that’s part of staying in a 400 year old building. There’s no elevator, so be ready to carry your luggage up narrow stairs. My only complaint is that the curtains are too sheer, letting street lights shine through at night. Don’t expect an English channel on the TV.

We liked the old, quaint building and its excellent location right in the centre of this fascinating town. The rooms were large and comfortable, and the Wi-Fi was free and relatively fast. But for this price, we expected more. There was no soap or shampoo in the bathroom, and after 9:30 the reception desk was dark and empty, so we couldn’t ask anyone. The bedside reading lamps were dim and useless. The restaurant is said to stay open until 10, but it was closing by 9:40. Breakfast was good, though having to ask a busy server for coffee was a first for me. This was a big disappointment.
