The garden is beautiful, right beside the river, and the location is good. Rooms vary quite a bit, with the best ones having balconies that look over the water. The manager was very helpful. Some staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, while a few seemed like they’d rather be doing something else. Still, it was a great experience, highly recommended.

The hotel felt like staying in someone’s home, and my host was gracious, helpful and accommodating. The town generally isn’t very English friendly, and I also felt it was worth mentioning that I’m black and there’s little diversity here unless you’re in town to play ball. I felt welcome at the hotel. I came to the Czech Republic to support my son at basketball. At the last minute, I had to switch hotels after realizing the one I’d booked was 2 hours south of where he’d be staying and playing. I found Penzion Pod Zamkem online, saw its good reviews and decided to take a chance. The location worked perfectly, with everywhere I needed to go within walking distance. My room had a Queen Sized bed, a garden view, French windows, and was clean and warm. Breakfast each morning could be hot or cold. The hotel restaurant was a nice surprise. I enjoyed the meals so much that I didn’t try anything else in town apart from chocolate and beer. When the adapter I’d bought didn’t work, I found a store before my phone died, and the owner drove me there himself. Jindrichuv Hradec feels like a trip back in time, with castles, medieval doorways and streets. I’ve heard it’s beautiful in spring and summer. If you’re ever in Jindrichuv Hradec, Penzion Pod Zamkem is a great place to stay.

The rooms were clean, the bed was comfortable, the staff very friendly, and the Wi-Fi worked well. The pension is near the city centre and the castle. What kept me from rating it higher was the lack of air conditioning and the cramped shower.

Delicious food and friendly staff, too. It’s a peaceful, quiet place where you can watch the river flow under the castle and let time stand still. My regards.
