The setting is a plus, with a good location near the thermal baths and nice views from the breakfast area. But the hotel felt shabby for a four-star place: the showers were poor, the decor was old, and the breakfast tablecloths had holes. We also got several emails saying our reservation had been cancelled when it hadn't. Reception and the restaurant are in the neighboring Bristol Palace, which was inconvenient. We paid an extra 50 euros per night for our child but weren't given a bed for them, so it was hard to see what that charge covered. The staff came across as cold and unfriendly. We expected more from our stay.

We were happy with our stay from March 13th to 15th and would return. The place is easy to find your way around, with clear signs and a map at check-in, and it's only about a 10-minute walk to the city center. Staff were consistently friendly, and we managed easily in English, with some German too. Breakfast had plenty of variety, and the spa was decent. The whirlpool was pleasantly warm and the steam room was fine. I thought the pool could be a degree or two warmer, and I was a little disappointed that the saunas were separate. Parking was the main drawback. We found a spot, but I can imagine that being difficult in peak season. The rooms are dated but clean and perfectly adequate. That seemed in keeping with Karlovy Vary overall. Don't let the negative reviews put you off, we found it worth the visit.

We had a lovely stay. The grounds are beautiful, the location is good, and the atmosphere felt cozy. Staff were friendly and helpful when we needed assistance with parking and check-in. The quiet zone was pleasant too. We only found out after arriving that parking and bringing a dog cost extra. We would have preferred to know before paying for the room. They said the €50 dog fee covered extra cleaning, but the room had visible dirt when we arrived, so it didn't feel particularly welcoming.
