EA Hotel Atlantic Palace

The hotel has potential in its location, building, and room layout, but our stay was a real letdown. The elevator never worked, so we carried our bags up and down four floors. We were at the hotel for about half the daytime and never saw anyone try to repair it. The pillows seemed to have lost most of their filling, and neither the beds nor the couch were comfortable. I ended up on the couch because it was the only place I could almost fall asleep. When the key is put into the room's power slot, a buzzing noise starts in the wall beside the bedroom and carries into it. We both slept worse than we have at many other hotels. I understand the parking arrangement involves compromises and isn't the hotel's fault, but guests should be told about it ahead of time so they can prepare or decide not to rent a car. They sent the information at 4:07 AM on our arrival day. Almost two weeks earlier, just after I booked, they had already emailed about going “green” by cleaning rooms every two days. That changed quickly after I pointed out that their own Agoda description promised daily cleaning. Making beds, removing rubbish, and replacing used towels mostly takes human effort, which is the greenest kind of energy. Skipping a day doesn't make this feel green to me. It feels greedy, cutting proper service and available work hours to optimize profit. What a shame.

The staff were especially kind and helpful, and we really appreciated our vacation here. Our room was beautifully furnished with high-quality equipment, and the hotel is in a great location. There is also a spa centre on the second floor. No swimming pool, but the range of services was broad enough for us. We were very pleased with the hotel and its service.

The location is perfect, and the staff were friendly enough to move us to a new room. We'd expected a bit more from a five-star place. Our first room hadn't been cleaned, with dirty towels left in the bathroom. Also, don't count on air conditioning in a five-star hotel in Karlovy Vary. We were there during Europe's hottest days, and after a long drive the hot room made it hard to sleep.

The breakfast was awful, especially the powdered scrambled eggs, and there wasn't any yogurt. Check-out was painfully early, like being in a hospital. Terrible “hotel.” Never again!
