Hotel Malé Versailles

The breakfast was included and had plenty of choices. The price was very competitive, and we’d definitely recommend the place and hope to return. The hotel has been tastefully renovated and feels welcoming, from the furnishings to the staff. It’s right in town but surrounded by nature. Our room and bathroom were spacious, with clean, crisp sheets, lovely clean floors without carpet, and wood beams overhead that gave it a cozy cottage feel. They had thoughtfully made up the sofa bed for our daughter and left extra towels and toiletries for her.

Breakfast was a clear 5/5, and the room was fairly comfortable with a nice medieval feel, although both towels had stains. The hotel is uphill, and walking from downtown isn’t too far, but luggage could make it a struggle. We arrived early and were glad to be allowed to check in around 12:00. Up to that point, I’d have rated it around 3.5-4/5. The really frustrating part was the receptionist, who spoke very limited English. We came from Hong Kong, where a visa isn’t required to travel in Czech. She nearly refused our check-in, repeating “No,” “China,” and other words we couldn’t understand. We felt very offended until, much later, she realized the difference between a Hong Kong and a China passport. Then she asked for our addresses and other information, and it took another 20 minutes before we got to our rooms. Checkout was a disaster too. At 10:55, with checkout due by 11:00, nobody was at reception. A few minutes later the same woman appeared and told us to pay. Our rooms were non-cancellable, and we had paid in full when booking. She again said “No pay,” then called a colleague, who spoke to us on the phone. Eventually they understood that the money was being held by the agency and let us leave, after another 30-minute delay. There are plenty of places to choose from at this price, so choose carefully.

The rooms are large, and the hotel is good and near the center. Free parking and breakfast included during the stay are big advantages, and I’d highly recommend staying here. Rooms are often unavailable, though, so book in time. The price is good, around 50€ for the stay.

It’s a quiet little hotel about 10 minutes from the old Town. Our room was big and clean, but there’s no balcony, and the hotel has no lobby. In good weather you can sit outside, but when it’s cold or raining, you’re left in your room.
