At the Golden Plough Apartments

The location is beautiful, and we fell in love with the cafe across the street. At first glance, the rooms looked nice too, and sitting on the windowsill was lovely. But cooking was a struggle without a pan or pasta strainer, and there were no cleaning supplies or brooms. There were dirty corners everywhere, the upstairs sink leaked, and the showerhead was in bad shape. The worst part, and why I’m writing this, was ants everywhere. It’s not appetizing to have insects crawling around your food. When we arrived, there were about 50 dead flies on the kitchen floor, and I had to pick them up.

The area is a little remote, though that was okay. The apartment itself was awful: live spiders were everywhere, including a huge one in the bathroom with all its babies nearby. I kept the doors shut while sleeping, but still felt sure I must have swallowed a spider in my sleep.

The owner was very kind and the apartment was in an excellent location, but several things made the stay unpleasant. There were dirty dishes put away, the mattress was worn, and the toilet leaked. I don't think I'll come back.

After four years we came back to the new world and stayed in the same place. It feels magical and peaceful, like time has stopped there. We loved it and recommend it 👏🏼🤩
