Clarion Congress Hotel Prague

Breakfast was often crowded, which is my one complaint. Otherwise, the staff were very kind, our room was perfect, and all the services were great. It’s a lovely place to relax, with a nice wellness area that isn’t too big. The hotel is around five or six metro stops from downtown, so getting around Prague was easy.

The direct way into the shopping mall from the reception is a big plus. It felt like an extension of the lobby, spotless and beautifully decorated for Christmas, with hardly anyone around. There are cafés, bakeries, pastry shops, and fast food places there. The pool is in the mall’s fitness center, along with a jacuzzi, gym, sauna, and more. It isn’t Olympic-sized, but it was comfortable for a couple of hours, and our teenager loved it. The hotel itself was spotless, with a high-tech design, cozy rooms, very comfortable beds, and good soundproofing. The staff were attentive and friendly, and they handled our accommodation requests just as we wanted. We had a great time here. It suits people who like spending a lot of their holiday at the hotel. Getting to the city center takes about nine metro stops and one transfer, though you can reach the metro through the mall. That was fine for us, since we’ve visited Prague many times. We’ll be back. The hotel's location is convenient, with public transport accessible through the mall, and the facilities themselves are fine. The service was another story. Staff seemed unhappy and not service-minded, and the management struck me as poor. They wanted everything paid upfront unless you insisted on paying at checkout, which made it feel as if they didn't trust guests. Breakfast bread was dry, and some pieces were hard, though staff said it was fresh that day. I raised it with the restaurant manager, who passed the complaint to a supervisor. When I asked her if she would eat that bread, she turned away without answering. The dining room also seemed poorly managed. We arrived before our room was ready and were told reception would let us know. Nobody did, and I had to ask again before learning the room was ready. I also saw reception staff switch to Czech when annoyed, apparently assuming guests wouldn't understand, and make comments about them. The managers came across as strict and arrogant, creating unnecessary pressure for staff, who rarely smiled. There’s more I could say, but this did not feel like a four-star hotel. The rooms have no minibar, and the staff seemed unprofessional. I intend to pass my concerns about the rating to the appropriate authorities.

The hotel is in a very good spot, with a train station inside the attached mall and only a ten-minute ride to the city center. I’d still recommend it, especially for a shorter stay, though I missed having a kitchen like we had in our previous accommodation. Matias and Petra at reception were genuinely kind and excellent with guests. They patiently answered all my questions and went out of their way to explain how to get around Prague and see the tourist sites. It was a pleasure talking with them, and their positive attitude made our holiday better. Our checkout around 3 a.m. on 5 January was disappointing. The staff on duty looked irritated and were unhelpful. When we asked for a trolley and the vegetarian breakfasts we had ordered in advance, they seemed not to believe us and treated the request suspiciously. Only when we were about to leave without breakfast did they realize there were three vegetarian breakfast boxes prepared for us. Guests choose to stay here, so they shouldn’t be treated as if staff own the hotel. This was avoidable and left a poor impression of the organization and service. That checkout experience significantly affected how we felt about the hotel.
