The location is good and the place was clean, but the people running the guesthouse made our weekend stay miserable. Making guests feel this unwelcome seems like a poor fit for a place offering hospitality. The reservation itself went smoothly. At check-in, though, the owner insisted we give the name on the booking, even though it was a specific reservation and we’d already discussed the room by phone. Once she arrived, she told us guests had to take off their shoes and borrow slippers if we hadn’t brought any. We weren’t comfortable taking slippers that other guests might have used. Then came a list of house rules, including reminders to save hot water and switch off lights wherever possible. When we were leaving, it was snowing, so we cleared the snow off our car, as we’d done without issue at other places nearby. A staff member, perhaps the owner’s father, was clearing snow too. After we’d removed about 3 cm from the car, he asked generally whether clearing the snow was allowed. We said yes, since we were leaving. He then humiliated us, saying we should have done it outside the property and that our little brains couldn’t understand that. That was too much.

The room was spotless, and the landlord was very kind and helped us plan our route. We brought our dog, for which we were charged €20. We found that outrageous. An extra €10 for cleaning would have seemed reasonable.

I stayed there with my daughter, and everything suited us perfectly. We had our dachshund with us, and they arranged a ground-floor room without any fuss so we wouldn’t have to carry the dog up and down the stairs. It had parquet flooring too. Everything was excellent. Sincerely, H. Matthiesen

The kitchen was equipped, and there was a games room with table football. The place was quiet and clean, and the location made it easy to get to everything we needed. This was our second visit to the guesthouse in Železná Ruda, and we were just as happy as before. Thanks to the owner for a great stay. We’ll be back soon!
