Hotel Vater Rhein

Good value for a basic stay. The owner was very helpful, and I was able to keep my bike in the garage.

Our room, the food and the staff could all have made for a perfectly fine stay, but loud drunk people outside kept us awake and we ended up moving to another hotel. The noise didn’t come from inside the hotel, so it wasn’t directly the hotel’s fault. Still, the response that they’d heard nothing and that we couldn’t simply leave made sure we won’t return.

All three of us ordered the lasagna, and none of us liked it. It was swimming in something that barely deserved to be called a sauce, more like bad tomato soup with bits of cream. We all tried it, but nobody ate their dish. The waiter didn’t check how the food was. He came over only when he thought we’d finished, saw the untouched plates and insisted it was real Italian lasagna and that we couldn’t dislike the taste. I’ve lived in Italy, and this wasn’t good lasagna, not even close. He didn’t offer us another dish, looked angry as he took the plates away, and didn’t come back. We paid full price and left hungry. Thankfully, we found a nice restaurant nearby and had a good meal.

I had lunch at the restaurant and found it too pricey. The waiter could barely speak German and couldn’t tell me where their salmon was caught or whether it came from aquaculture.
