Château Royal Berlin

We loved our long weekend at Chateau Royal with the family. The hotel has a great spot on a quiet street, close to everything, and the bar feels like it belongs in a cool indie movie. The staff were super friendly, breakfast was great, and our room was spacious and comfortable. Everywhere you look, there’s lovely old-fashioned charm and art that makes each area feel distinct.

Paul was especially great :) The place has an international feel throughout, with such good taste in the decor and all the little details. Easily my favorite boutique hotel in Berlin.

I got home and discovered I’d been charged twice for the room and taxes, even though I’d prepaid everything. The hotel still hasn’t refunded the full amount, and management seemed unable to return the exact sum. They also tried to blame me for bank charges that caused an underpayment. That makes no sense to me, since those charges wouldn’t have happened if I hadn’t been billed twice. At checkout, the receptionist had asked me to pay, but I explained it was already paid and left it there. Hard to understand how such an established hotel could get this so wrong.

Good bar, and a nice spot for a drink and some food. As a place to stay, though, it’s not worth the money. I paid for a junior suite and had thin walls. I’d been in touch with the hotel about a quiet room, explained it was just one night, and said I was willing to pay for a late checkout if needed. When I returned to get my room, nobody showed me where anything was, so I wandered around before going back to reception for help. They said my bags were in the room, but they weren’t, and I had no idea where they’d put them. I asked repeatedly about late checkout and was refused. The reception manager was dismissive and unpleasant. Maybe that’s just the German way of being unpleasant. Simply put, not worth a penny.
