Classik Hotel Hackescher Markt

The room was clean and comfortable, and the area was quiet. The hotel has no reception staff and check-in and check-out are self-service, which we didn’t like. Our room was supposed to be serviced after two nights, but it wasn’t. We emailed the hotel chain, and two staff members arrived within 15 minutes to take care of it. The location worked really well, close to the rail network with trams right outside. Breakfast was a good continental spread, enough to fill you up. There’s also a shared area with drinks and snacks, paid for through an honesty box. All in all, a nice hotel in a handy spot.

Supun made a real difference to our stay. He was caring, professional and helpful, with great advice on places to eat and which trains to take around Berlin. He showed us how the storage lockers worked and checked in with us regularly. It was clear he loves the city and takes pride in his work. Our room was spotless, modern and cosy, with thoughtful extras like an iron. The heating kept us warm in chilly Berlin, and the shower had strong water pressure, which was welcome after long days out. Breakfast was delicious, with a classic selection, homegrown honey and wonderfully fresh croissants. The hotel was clean and well located, and we felt looked after. I’d gladly stay again.

We only stayed one night. Check-in and check-out are handled on a screen, and there’s no one at reception. Our first-floor room faced the tram stop, so it was noisy all night, though it stayed warm in winter. The fresh fruit at reception was a lovely welcome, especially since we arrived after 1 a.m. There were slippers in the room too, a nice extra.

We had a spacious deluxe double room that felt more like a small apartment, and the beds were excellent if you like a firm mattress. Everything was very clean. The hotel is easy to reach by public transport and makes it convenient to get around the city. We were there at the start of December. Breakfast was simple but enough to get going, and there’s somewhere to store luggage after check-out. Staff speak German and only very basic English, but with most things handled by self-service, we hardly needed help. We’ll come back.
