Downtown City Landmark Near Checkpoint Charlie

The hosts were terrific, helpful and quick to respond, and the subway is just a few minutes’ walk away. We loved the apartment and the neighborhood, which was quiet but close to everything, with great restaurants nearby. Special mention to Dehli6 and Taz, both only minutes away. The apartment is beautifully furnished in a gorgeous restored building, and the listing pictures are very accurate. A phenomenal stay in Berlin!

Marian and his wife made us feel at home from the moment we arrived. They were exceptionally hospitable, with thoughtful touches in the immaculate, stylish apartment, which had everything we needed. They were always available with help and great recommendations. The location was very central and walkable, with easy access to public transport, sites, shops and restaurants. Marian suggested renting bikes in the lobby downstairs and riding to Zenner Biergarten in the park along the river. It was fantastic. Take some time to ask them about the history of their beautiful building, too, it’s amazing. There are three flights of stairs up to the apartment, so you need to be able-bodied. We highly recommend staying at Marian's apartment in Berlin. We’re so grateful for their kindness and generosity.

We were four adults and two teenagers, and came away with mixed feelings. The apartment was lovely: spacious, clean and comfortable, with a beautiful kitchen, two separate bathrooms and a classy building. Getting the key from the safe was easy, with clear instructions. When we left, we returned the keys and were given a separate one to open a small closet in the stairwell where we could leave our luggage. The repeated messages about house rules began soon after I booked. I understand rules matter, but after the fourth updated set of rules, I started to wonder why. We were tourists wanting to see Berlin, not planning parties. There’s no elevator, so luggage has to go up two flights of stairs. A downstairs neighbor asked how many of us there were and urged us to take our shoes off in the apartment. We got the impression they weren’t keen on tourists renting the place, so we were extra careful to keep quiet the whole time and didn’t dare play music in the evenings. The apartment was very nice, but the rules and the intimidating neighbor put a damper on our stay.

We came back to this lovely apartment for a second stay. It’s expensive, and they put a lot of emphasis on quiet hours, but that’s easy enough to respect. The apartment is beautiful, clean and roomy for our group, with comfortable beds and space to relax together in the living room. The location is excellent, with several subway and S-Bahn stations close by. By Berlin standards, it’s easy to get to the main train station, tourist spots, Kreuzberg and other nightlife areas. Checkpoint Charlie and other attractions are only a five minute walk away. The small inconvenience was paying the city tax in cash using an envelope. I would’ve preferred a more convenient way to pay, such as handing over cash, or better yet, using a card or paying online.
