Upper Room Hotel Kurfurstendamm

The room change request set the tone for a very disappointing stay. I had booked three nights for three people, but when I asked to switch rooms, staff said I'd have to pay extra. They came across as moody and unprofessional, with little interest in basic service. The room was tiny for three people, with very worn, old furniture. It was only just clean enough, and there was a strong, strange smell as soon as we entered. The refrigerator was extremely dirty and didn't look sanitized, which felt like a real food safety risk. We spent the first night freezing because the radiator was off. Nobody told us we had to turn it on ourselves, even though it was around -3°C outside in Berlin. Rest was difficult too: cleaning staff made a lot of noise early in the morning. The elevator was very small and often got stuck, so carrying heavy or multiple bags up and down the stairs was exhausting. The facilities felt outdated and the service standards were very low. I wouldn't recommend Upper Room Berlin to anyone looking for a decent, safe and comfortable stay.

The location is the one good thing about it. The rooms weren't clean, the manager wasn't nice, and the walls seemed to do nothing for soundproofing. I could hear the guy in the next room farting. I couldn't sleep for four nights.

The breakfast photos don't match what you get, and the buffet wasn't very nice. The carpets were filthy, which could make you feel really bad if you have allergies. My room, number 531, was at the far end of the corridor on the fifth floor. It was only about 8-9m² including the bathroom, and the only way up was a dangerous, dirty spiral staircase. I asked the receptionist to move me since some rooms were available, but he refused and didn't even offer a better room for an extra charge. The staff weren't nice or helpful. I paid 125 Euro per night, and this was worse than an old guesthouse. It's a dangerous hotel for anyone with a disability or limited mobility. It doesn't deserve even one star, and I strongly recommend staying away.

I booked four rooms, and every one was dirty when we arrived. There was grime and dust, dirty floors, stained sheets and bins that hadn't been emptied. I saw no visible hygiene measures at all, which is alarming in a hotel. When I raised the problem at reception, the receptionist was rude and dismissive. He said he was "just one person" and couldn't help us. Another guest beside me was visibly upset too, dealing with similar problems and close to losing his temper over the same poor behavior and lack of communication. I took photos of the room conditions. They show how bad the cleanliness was, and I'll share them with review sites and consumer protection agencies if needed. With the failures in both service and hygiene, I'm asking for a full refund for the four rooms. This was far below reasonable expectations and a complete failure of the basics. NEVER BOOK THIS HOTEL
