Hotel Am Flughafen

I won’t stay here again. I was woken at 9 even though checkout wasn’t until 11, because apparently you need to put the “do not disturb” sign on the door to avoid being disturbed. I’ve never encountered that before. The service was awful, the staff had no manners, and the room smelled and hadn’t been vacuumed. I’d avoid it.

The neighborhood is lovely and quiet, with two supermarkets nearby. The rooms were perfectly pleasant, and I’d stay again. It is a bit of a trek to central Cologne, around 30-45 minutes by public transport.

The friendly receptionist made us feel welcome, and the room had the basics we needed for a short stay. It’s a decent budget option, but I wouldn’t recommend it for longer. In our three-bed shared room, only one bed had a charging port, so the other two of us had to charge our phones by the multi-plug near the TV. The bed also seemed to move a little at one point. I’d rate it 3.5, but those issues bring it down to a 3 for me.

We stayed one night and found the place easy to locate, with fee-based public parking out front during the day. The room was spacious, and the bathroom had an old-fashioned 1980s feel that was a bit charming in its own way. The reception was closed when we arrived in the early afternoon, but a cleaner checked us in. We didn’t get to try breakfast. A nice touch was that someone came up to ask if we wanted a taxi booked ahead, since we’d mentioned an early checkout for our flight.
