The two separate mattresses left a gap that made sleeping uncomfortable, and water from the shower spread across the whole bathroom floor. The hair dryer was tiny and didn’t work well. The room did have the essentials, including a cupboard with a safe, kettle, and shower. It’s in a perfect spot, about a 4-5 minute walk from the station and close to the cathedral. The stay was fine, though there’s room for improvement, especially given the high extra cleaning charge the owner mentioned.

The staff were helpful, but I can’t see how this hotel has a 4.2-star rating. My room felt rather makeshift and hadn’t been cleaned thoroughly. The shower head and hair dryer kept falling down, which was pretty annoying.

The beds were comfortable, but the TV didn’t work properly. Getting into our room was a struggle because the locks kept sticking, and there was mold in the bathroom. The shower wouldn’t close properly either. It’s a pretty okay hotel, nothing special. If you’re mainly out exploring, it’s a good cheap place to stay. If you only plan to visit a few attractions and then spend time back in the room, I’d choose somewhere else.

The attic room on the top floor was quiet, the beds were comfortable, and the bathroom was clean. Breakfast was really good, with plenty to choose from for just €10 per person. The hotel had everything we needed for a short stay, and the staff were friendly enough to make us feel at home. We spent one night here before heading home from our backpacking trip. It’s well placed for a walk by the river and there are lots of nearby restaurants. Freulein Herborths does a great burger. We mentioned two small room issues to reception at checkout, and they apologized sincerely.

A clean, cozy place run by a friendly family. It’s perfectly located near Cologne’s central train station. We’ll come back.
