It was nice to be right in the city center, and honestly the stay wasn’t awful. The price for breakfast was 10 euros, but it was basic and cold. There’s room for improvement. I was disgusted by the mattress and checked it for bedbugs. There were lots of stains in different colors. The hallways smelled of cigarettes. I also had trouble getting my hotel invoice because the guy’s girlfriend wasn’t there, apparently. Best of luck in Darmstadt! :D
Getting there by car is difficult since the hotel is in the pedestrian area, and it was a pain to find. Nobody answered either of the phone numbers listed on the booking confirmation and Google. There’s no elevator, and parking is a public garage about a five-minute walk away. It cost me €10. Google says breakfast is free, but they tried to charge €10, so I grabbed a sandwich and coffee around the corner. The TV didn’t work at all, the blinds were a pain to use, and the toilet kept running. Just go somewhere else!
The place is clean, but it smells old and the furniture is a mix of old and new. The elevator is only available from 7.30 to 13.00. On the second floor it’s inside reception, which is staffed only during those same hours. Great idea! The TV only gets a few channels.
There’s no full-time reception. When I arrived, one of the roller shutters in my assigned room was stuck fully open. With no blackout curtains, I knew I’d be woken very early. I tried calling repeatedly and sent messages because I just wanted the problem fixed, but nobody answered or did anything. I had to leave the hotel. Nobody replied to my email asking for a refund either.
Just a heads-up, this hotel does not have parking.
