Hotel Donnersberg

A very comfortable, pleasant stay. They went beyond what we expected with our request and even upgraded us. Thanks for the hospitality.

Good location, just a two-minute walk from the tram, and the road outside was quiet. The bedroom was clean, nicely decorated, and had a comfortable mattress; the bathroom was modern and new. A small fridge in the room would’ve been useful since there aren’t shops nearby. Drinks at the entrance are reasonably priced, though, and there’s free coffee and cookies.

Breakfast was decent for the price, standard fare, but enough to leave you full. The hosts were friendly and helped when I asked, though they didn’t tend to offer much on their own. I wouldn’t call the stay horrible, but there’s a lot to improve before this works well as a business hotel. The location was well connected to where I needed to work, which was the main reason it was worthwhile. WiFi in my room ranged from inconsistent to unusable. Speed wasn’t the problem, the router or extender was just poorly placed for the room. You could connect only two devices for the whole stay, not two at once. I hope they track that by MAC address, or some situations might leave you without WiFi altogether. The pillow was far too thin, even for a back sleeper. I’m a side sleeper, so I folded the two pillows in the room in half, and they barely got my head off the mattress. Sleeping in was also tough. Cleaning staff left room doors open and the vacuum could start loudly at 9 in the morning. I’m a deep sleeper, and even when I was unbelievably tired, I couldn’t sleep through it. There wasn’t much flexibility with late checkout or late breakfast. I can understand needing advance agreement for checkout, but not being able to ask for even 30 extra minutes was frustrating. I understand breakfast has a set time, but after paying for it and telling them we wouldn’t make it, I was disappointed they didn’t offer a sandwich or something to take away. I was woken in time, but too exhausted to get up. The worst part was forgetting something in the room while rushing out. I came back less than an hour later, and it had already been thrown away. I get not keeping forgotten items forever, but setting something aside for even a few hours costs little and could help a guest who remembers and comes back the same day. The hosts did help when I asked, but it was always on my initiative. Going that little extra on your own is what makes a difference.
