The breakfast had loads to choose from, and they even had gluten-free granola and bread for our daughter. Thanks for remembering that! We booked two rooms in this charming, fully renovated old hotel. The rooms were sweet, with a nice blend of modern updates and old-world character, plus a fantastic shower. The timber beams looked great. The morning crew were so friendly; the evening staff could use a little coaching from them, though I may have caught them at a bad moment. Nothing spoiled our stay. We absolutely loved it.

The woman at reception was so helpful and friendly when we suddenly needed a room, and we were glad to find one here. The room felt cosy, with lovely furnishings, quality fittings and a very comfortable bed. We ended up paying a little extra, but this hotel felt much more upmarket, so things worked out well for us. We'd arrived at the hotel we'd booked and paid for only to find it had closed after a fire six weeks earlier, with no notice to us. The other hotel eventually refunded us, but only after my German husband contacted them through their website. They hadn't let us know about the closure or refunded us on their own.

The hotel staff were wonderfully friendly and helpful, and breakfast was plentiful, tasty and varied. As far as I believe, breakfast is included in all room rates. The local baked goods were especially good. The hotel is linked to Hotel Sonne, with its beer garden on the central Weinmarkt. Dinkelsbühl is a beautiful place to spend a day or three, eating local dishes outdoors. Its half-timbered architecture is a real highlight, and it's one of the few German towns with a complete city wall, gate and watch towers, and water barriers outside it. The town also hosts Germany's second biggest heavy metal festival, #summerbreeze. The locals have embraced the black wave and are eager to welcome visitors.

The only thing I wished was that we could have stayed longer. We'd spent two weeks in Germany and tried five hotels, and this one was easily our favorite. It's inside the old city walls, with restaurants and shops just seconds away. We also found free parking right outside, free from 5 or 6 pm until 9 am. The old building had recently been remodeled and still smelled new. Our room was tastefully decorated, and breakfast was included, with juices, breads, cereal, meats, cheeses, scrambled eggs, bacon and coffee. We spent a night in Rothenburg too, but if we return and have to choose, we'd pick Dinkelsbühl, especially this hotel.

Really great.
