Getting to the football stadium was easy, with great transport links.

This left us with a very poor impression of the landlord and his customer service. We weren’t permitted to view the accommodation, so I can’t comment on the place itself. We’d received an offer and asked neutrally how the price was set. The answer, “supply and demand,” was understandable enough. We were told we had two months to consider it, but when we followed up, the landlord immediately withdrew the offer. He stressed that the accommodation was attractive to him because other people were interested, which felt like pressure on potential customers. It seemed he already had plenty of other tenants.

The owners are so welcoming, and whenever I come to Düsseldorf for a Fortuna game, this is where I stay. You can walk to the trade fair grounds and the stadium, where Fortuna Düsseldorf play and concerts are held. Nordpark is right nearby, with quick access to the Rhine promenade, and U78/U79 trains make getting to the city center easy. There’s plenty of parking close by and a few decent, if not exceptional, restaurants in the area. It’s quiet and a great place to stay in the north of Düsseldorf. Seems others have discovered it too, since rooms can be hard to find when the city has events.

The modern building was comfortable and practical, and I’d have liked to stay for several nights. The wooden room was especially interesting. But the doorknob was so stiff I spent 15 minutes trying to get out. I couldn’t reach the staff member who had explained it to me, so I finally put all my weight on the knob and got the door open. I nearly ended up late for my appointment, which is why I’m giving four stars.
