THE RED Apartments

The service was responsive and very friendly, and the location really is hard to beat. The room was clean and a good size, but the TVs are too small, and the blankets and pillows were really poor. Please don’t charge 15 euros for two towels. That comes across as greedy and is madness. For what we paid, towels and free washing shouldn’t even be a question. We were warned about the garage, but getting the car into a parking spot was still really difficult. Still, the location is super.

I told them I wouldn’t cancel, since I was already driving and had no time that day to look for somewhere else to stay. Two hours after our call, they still cancelled my booking. They had asked if I wanted to cancel, and when I said I’d leave a review based on my experience, they told me they would cancel if I left a bad one. The listing on booking said parking was available on site for a fee. After I asked three times to reserve a space, they finally replied and asked when I’d arrive. I said after 4 p.m., and they said that was outside business hours, so I couldn’t use their parking. Their listing says check-in is possible after 15:00, leaving only an hour to manage check-in if you’re arriving by car, which is hard to estimate while travelling. I told them that should be stated in the description, otherwise I wouldn’t have booked. I’ve never experienced behaviour like this.

The location was great for walking into town or taking a leisurely stroll along the Rhein promenade. Our experience at The Red was lovely, and we’d definitely return to Düsseldorf. The penthouse was gorgeous, bright, and modern, with enough room for two couples and two kids. The furniture and appliances were excellent, and the kitchen had everything we needed, including a Nespresso machine. They’d even provided toys to keep the kids busy, a nice personal touch. The serviced apartment had only recently opened, so there was some installation work during our stay, but the noise was kept low and didn’t bother us much. Staff were very helpful from the time we made the reservation right through to departure.

The internet was dreadful, barely working. It’s a nice place, but we won’t book it again when we come to dusseldorf in three months. There was no human being around, which caused problems when we arrived at 10 in the evening and couldn’t open the locked front door. We had to call the emergency number. The woman was rather unfriendly and kept saying we should have read the emails more carefully, because the door code was in there. But we’d only received a code for the key 🔑 vault, not the front door. Another guest happened to arrive and let us in, and said he’d also had to figure out how to get the front door code.
