A complete disaster. Grease and dirt were everywhere, with huge clumps of dust under the bed. The bathroom and toilet looked as if they hadn’t been disinfected in years, and the toilet barely flushed. The apartment’s front door wouldn’t close, and the room doors were broken and damaged too. The kitchen was catastrophic: just one plate, no glasses, and cutlery so bad you’d rather eat with your hands. Then, a week after we left the hostel, the owner called accusing us of stealing a TV. There hadn’t even been a TV in our room from the start.

Hotel Balkan. People here come from all over: Bulgaria, Ukraine, Romania, Serbia, Macedonia, Kosovo, Janjevo, Croatia, and Bosnia. There are single and double rooms, a large parking lot, and it’s a quiet place.
